Chainsaw Tips For New Users

Choosing the most suitable chainsaw is vital especially for newbies planning to operate a saw for the first time. Whether it's Stihl, Husqvarna, Poulan or Echo, getting the right advice before parting with those hard-earned dollars makes good sense.

Chainsaws have entered the domain of homeowners in recent years who have discovered their versatility in great numbers. But consider this; in the US alone, between 30-40,000 accidents are attributed each year to chainsaws and experts will tell you in no uncertain manner than most could have been prevented. For a first time, it's important to assess exactly what type and size of chainsaw you require. You won't need the most powerful saw on the market if it's brush you're wanting to clear and likewise for a big job, you are going to need a machine capable of handling it.

Stihl and Husqvarna have moved with the times. They have taken advantage of technology in no uncertain manner and are producing some amazing machines particularly suited to the non-professional.

Having a specialised chainsaw dealer in your area is a huge advantage even if you need to drive an hour or two. The big advantage is you can go into the store and literally try before you buy and most dealers are usually very accomodating. Don't be embarassed about asking questions and ask for physical demonstrations. But more importantly, try the saw yourself. When the saw requires service and maintenance work, you can drop it into your dealer safe in the knowledge that you have struck up a good relationship with him and his staff.

What's the reason you need a chainsaw? Do you have an unwanted tree you want to remove or a group of trees? Are they big trees? As far as cutting down the trees is concerned, you need to consider the area around them. Are they close to your home? With a 15-20 inch diameter, these trees could be anywhere from 30 to 50 feet high so you need to consider whether other objects or even the neighbors property might be in jeopardy. Your chainsaw dealer should be able to give you some good advice; if not, find one who can. It's understandable they want to sell you a machine but with chainsaws, you've got to expect some solid advice as well. The last thing you want is to launch into a tree without doing some pre-surveillance work and have the tree land on your roof, car or even worse, your neighbor!

Stihl And Husqvarna - Highly Recommended

Stihl and Husqvarna come with strong recommendations. This can depend in what part of the world you are. Stihl and Husqvarna are the leaders in the world of chainsaws and each has it's own following. Rather than take it as gospel that one is better than the other, get a good cross reference of recommendations but generally you can't go wrong with them. Chainsaw power is vitally important. For homeowners, sticking to the 50 to 70cc range should be sufficient but again, be guided by what your dealer suggests. A lot will depend on how often you use your chainsaw. If you only intend to use it sparingly, then the smaller machine may be all you need. If it's for more regular use, you may want to consider looking at chainsaws in the mid size range. There's no need to buy the most expensive and most powerful machine on the market, yet, for safety reasons, you don't want a saw that isn't is under performing.

Chainsaws are only as dangerous as the person handling them so be well versed in their operation before using them. Stihl and Husqvarna have some great information available and it could be a good idea to visit their sites online before purchasing.
